Submitted by alison on 11 May 2008 - 11:50am

Hey everyone, sorry for those of you have been checking but yet no news for a few days.  I finished all my training in Toronto and my in Malawi training.  Our in Country was fun but educational.  We are staying at a camp staying in tents with beds in them, in Lilongwe (the capital).  Tomorrow Jenna and I meet our partner orginization then I am off to Salima and Jenna is coming too, then depending on the time will stay or go to her town.  I am super excited.  We went to the market and that was exciting.  I will let you know what is going on when I know more

Intro to My Summer Life

Submitted by william on 8 May 2008 - 3:48am

I would like to take this opportunity to give some context around my overseas placement this summer through Engineers Without Borders (EWB). You'll have to bear with me as this will probably be my least exciting post as the summer waxes and wanes. I promise future blogs will be much more exciting with cultural blunders, workplace challenges and successes, and love from your #1 Saskatchewanite in Ghana. For those of you familiar with the EWB Junior Fellow (JF) program I would recommend skipping this next paragraph, as I give a little explanation of what the JF program is all about.

Hi everyone, I hope this finds you well.  I am sitting and waiting to take the cab to the airport.  Team Malawi flys tonight to london then stay there for 12 hours so we may get out of the airport and look around.  Then to Nairobi overnight then to Lilongwe for our in country training.

About to go to Toronto

Submitted by alison on 29 April 2008 - 11:44am

Today is my last day at home so I thought I would write a quick note.  Tomorrow I get up at 330am to drive to Vancouver to fly to Toronto.  I am about to make toothpaste out of salt, baking soda, glycerine and essential oil.  Not an exciting last day but I wouldnt ask for anything else.  I will read a lot today to get more foundation learning down.

Gonna Go to Ghana

Submitted by william on 10 April 2008 - 5:12pm

So I've never written a blog, and I've barely taken the time to read any, so I'll keep this short and sweet for those of you who are impatient about these kind of things, like myself.

I received an email this morning telling me about my placement in Africa! I'll be spending about 3 and a half months in Yendi working at the District Agriculture Development Unit this summer, which, from what I understand, is a division of Ghana's Ministry of Agriculture (MofA).

Hair Destruction for Poverty Reduction

Hi, welcome to my blog and very bad grammer and spelling. First my first blog I think its appropriate to talk about an event we just had to raise awareness and funds for mine and Dean's(Ghana) JF placments this summer. The event was better then I expected we raised a sweet bundle of money and got 21 in total to shave their heads. We had a fairly large turnout and Dean told them what we were going to be doing and then the shaving began. I myself shaved 7 heads I believe and then had to run and get some yellow fever shots.
